🦖 WAK SPINO — COMPLETE GUIDE
The WAK Spinosaurus, created by BigAL and commissioned by Xako, is a modded creature designed specifically for ARK: Survival Ascended. It is billed as the ‘Emperor of the Coast’ and offers gameplay that is very different from the vanilla Spino.
🔎 WHERE CAN YOU FIND THE WAK SPINO?
The WAK Spino is a rare creature.
🌴 Normal version
It can appear, for example, at:
- 🏝️ Carno Island
- 🌋 Volcano / Centre
- 🏔️ Scotland / Highlands on Ragnarok
- ☣️ Sulphur Extinction Zone
🔥 Scorched version
The Scorched variant appears in particular in the Scorched Earth and Extinction oases.
⚠️ As it is rare, finding a high-level one may require several searches.
🥣 HOW DO YOU TAME THE WAK SPINO?
⚠️ The WAK Spino CANNOT be tamed using a standard KO.
It has a special method inspired by the Amargasaurus taming process.
🥣 1. OBTAIN FISH SOUP
Before you start, you’ll need some Fish Soup.
Drink it before approaching the WAK Spino.
Fish Soup provides stamina recovery, reduced oxygen consumption and health regeneration, amongst other benefits.
🛡️ 2. APPROACHING THE WAK SPINO
After consuming the Fish Soup:
➡️ The WAK Spino will normally no longer attack you directly.
⚠️ But be careful:
It can still attack you if you get too close.
So keep your distance.
🔫 3. KILLING CARNIVORES
This is THE most important part of taming.
You must kill carnivorous creatures near the WAK Spino.
✅ Works with:
🦖 Carnivores
❌ Doesn’t work:
🦕 Herbivores
And most importantly:
You must carry out the kills on foot.
The mod also states that a better weapon allows you to progress with taming more quickly.

- 🛡️ Good armour
- ❤️ Healing items
- ⚡ Something to restore your stamina

Drink the Fish Soup

Get close, but not too close

Lure carnivores towards it

Kill the carnivores
on foot

Carry on until you’ve completed the taming process
🔥 The more effective your weapon is, the faster you’ll make progress.
⚔️ THE WAK SPINO’S ATTACKS
Once tamed, the WAK Spino has several attacks.
🦷 LEFT-CLICK — BITE
Left-clicking performs a bite attack.
It has several different animations.

🩸 RIGHT-CLICK — HEAVY ATTACK
The attack depends on the direction you’re facing.
👁️ Facing the target
The Spino performs a double claw strike.
This attack pierces armour and applies Open Wounds.
The debuff can stack up to 20 times, causing the target to take up to 50 per cent additional damage.
👈 👉 On the flanks
The Spino performs a stomp attack that applies a slow effect.
🔄 From behind
It uses its tail and also applies a slow effect.
💀 SPACE — CHARGED ATTACK
Hold Space to charge the attack.
Once sufficiently charged:
💥 DOUBLE BITE
It deals massive damage and applies the Deep Wounds debuff.
The debuff deals damage gradually over several seconds, with a limit set by the mod.
🌊 THE WAK SPINO UNDERWATER
The WAK Spino is particularly interesting in water.
It can:
- 🌊 Sprint underwater
- ↕️ Move whilst tilted upwards or downwards
- 💥 Use its charged attack underwater
- 🛶 Use raft mode
To perform a charged attack underwater:
Right-click → wait for the icon to turn blue → Space bar

The WAK Spino saddle can be obtained from various high-quality drops.

💡 TIPS FOR THE WAK SPINO
🥣 Always carry several Fish Soups
If you’re heading out to hunt a WAK Spino, don’t set off with just one bowl of soup.
🔫 Take a good weapon
The creator points out that a better weapon speeds up the taming process.
🦖 Only kill carnivores
Herbivores do not contribute to taming progress.
👣 Stay on foot
The kills required for taming must be made whilst on foot.
🌊 Make the most of the water
Once tamed, the WAK Spino is particularly useful for combat and travelling in water.
