In ARK: Survival Ascended, PvP isn’t just about having the best dinosaurs or the best weapons. To survive, you need to know how to build wisely, protect your resources and anticipate enemy attacks.
Progress always starts with a well-planned base in a location that’s hard to spot or attack.
🏠 Choosing your location
Choosing your location is one of the most important decisions in PvP.
Prioritise:
- Caves and naturally defensible locations.
- Areas that are difficult to access.
- Places where you can hide chests and resources.
- Positions offering multiple lines of defence.
- Locations suited to the size of your tribe.
⚠️ A base that’s too visible or poorly defended can be destroyed very quickly, even if it contains plenty of resources.
🔒 Building an effective base
A good PvP base must be designed to hold out for as long as possible.
It is advisable to separate the different areas:
Storage: resources, ammunition and equipment.
Breeding: breeding dinosaurs and important creatures.
Defence: turrets, traps and firing positions.
Secure chests: rare items and valuable equipment.
Also, avoid keeping all your resources in one place. If the enemy gets to your main chest, you risk losing all your progress.
🛡️ Defence
Your defences must be tailored to your location.
Towers, defensive structures and traps help to slow down attackers and protect key areas.
You should also avoid concentrating all your defences on a single point. A PvP attack can come from several directions, and a predictable defence quickly becomes vulnerable.
🦕 Essential dinosaurs
Certain dinosaurs are particularly useful in PvP:
- Argentavis: transporting and retrieving dinosaurs.
- Ankylosaurus: metal gathering.
- Doedicurus: stone gathering.
- Therizinosaurus: gathering and farming.
- Tyrannosaurus / Carcharodontosaurus / Giganotosaurus: combat and defence, depending on the situation.
- Breeding dinosaurs: essential for achieving high stats.
- Creatures specialising in caves: useful for defending or attacking certain locations.
Dinos aren’t just for combat, then: they also help produce the resources you need to progress.
⚔️ Attacking an enemy base
Before launching an attack, always scout the base.
Look for:
- The main entrances.
- Tower lines.
- Generators and defensive zones.
- Any weaknesses in the structure.
- The dinosaurs present in the base.
- Paths allowing you to approach without being spotted straight away.
A well-planned attack is better than an improvised rush. In PvP, information is often just as important as equipment.
💎 Protecting your resources
Never carry all your wealth on a single character or a single dino.
Keep separate reserves and hide valuable resources wherever possible. Also, remember to keep several sets of equipment so you can get back on your feet quickly after an attack.
🧬 Breeding and stats
Breeding quickly becomes essential as the tribe begins to progress.
Look for good starting stats, then use mutations and breeding to improve your bloodlines.
In PvP, a few extra points in HP, melee or stats suited to the dino’s role can make a huge difference in combat.

Never assume your base is invincible.
A good tribe must always have a plan B: multiple locations, hidden reserves, replacement dinosaurs and enough resources to rebuild.
In WAK, survival depends as much on your preparation as on your strength.
